How did we start?

How did we start?

This project began with a long list of features. We wanted to choose the most important ones based on what our users needed. So the design team and I did some research:

  • We created rough sketches of our users, called proto-personas.

  • Interviewed people.

  • Made our first set of detailed personas, with their problems and goals.

From research to wireframes

From research to wireframes

Our research helped us prioritize. We used a method called user story mapping to define our MVP's scope.

The design team and I brainstormed on whiteboards and sketched the main features. After that, I made the first wireframes to give developers a clearer picture of the project.

Then we started defining the look and feel. We worked closely with stakeholders to ensure it matched their brand.

UI & Design System

UI & Design System

After choosing our design style, we created guidelines like an 8-point grid, web breakpoints, and an initial design system for reusing components

I took charge of the iOS app's product design. I created components for a small design system and designed all the user flows for our development team.

User testing

User testing

We used InVision to make prototypes and tested them with students and teachers. This helped us make sure our designs were helpful and easy to use.

After testing, we had debrief meetings to discuss our results, and then we shared our findings with the rest of the world.

Prototype, test, repeat

Prototype, test, repeat

We got into a great routine with our sprints. We kept sketching new features, making prototypes, and testing them with users to make improvements.

We did a lot of testing and kept refining our designs. This helped us make sure that users understood and liked what we were making.

Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts

After seven months, we created the first version of a product for iOS, Android, and Web that everyone was thrilled with.

We laid the foundation for a new social and learning network for a well-loved school in Mexico.

I was really excited about this. It was one of my first projects where I got to experience this process. A big thank you to Joel, Daniela, and Marco
